Letter from Hinda:

We, in the beautiful Berkshires, have good reason to be proud of our farm-to-table restaurants and wonderful farmer’s markets, but how many of us think about the hard labor that makes these possible?

We appreciate the gorgeous landscape and outstanding culture, but are we aware that 14% of our population is living at or below the poverty level?

And how many of us cringe when we hear the anti-immigration rhetoric being spewed forth from the current presidential administration?

I decided to start Berkshire Baby Box (during the last presidential campaign) as a way to help support our migrant, farm worker, immigrant and low-income families to feel welcome and valued in our community.

I hope we have enough funding to continue to provide these safe sleeping spaces for all new babies in our county, and that this will become a treasured rite of passage in our beloved Berkshires.

There are many Baby Box workshops scheduled throughout the county, where you will meet other expectant moms and local health practitioners.  These workshops will help prepare you for parenthood, introduce you to programs and resources available to new moms and families, and can help you avoid the feeling of isolation that often comes with having a new baby. CALL to find out when their next workshop will be held, and to let them know when you would like to attend.
